Brutalist Ghost Stories

I have a new book coming out. It’s called Brutalist Ghost Stories. Just as that suggests, it’s a collection of ghost stories, each of which takes a different brutalist landmark from across the UK as its setting and inspiration.

From universities and theatres to car parks and substations, brutalist architecture lurks throughout Britain. Its mysterious buildings brood on our skylines, haunting our towns and cities with their vision of a future which never arrived. Vast, angular, imposing, these structures are some of the country’s most distinctive and underappreciated landmarks – and often feel like some of its darkest.

Brutalist Ghost Stories brings together seventeen of the finest writers of contemporary fiction to respond to these buildings through the form of the ghost story. It features stories by Jenn Ashworth, Beth Barker, RZ Baschir, Naomi Booth, Gosia Buzzanca, Jeremy Dyson, Chịkọdịlị Emelụmadụ, Thom Evans, Rachael Fulton, David Gaffney, Jessie Greengrass, Daisy Johnson, Amy Lord, Lauren O’Donoghue, Holly Pester, Nicholas Royle and Robert Shearman, and is fully illustrated by Leah Leaf.

Brutalist Ghost Stories will be published on 15th October. It can be pre-ordered for the special price of £9 + p&p.

The book will be launched at a special event at Manchester Central Library as part of Manchester Literature Festival on Saturday 17th October.
